KILLINSVILLE um COLLINSVILLE HALLOWEEN

Collinsville, CT – Halloween is a big time in Collinsville. On Saturday they had a parade and the whole town was decorated. Here are just a few photos of the preparation of the celebration. Posted by Picasa

COLLINS AXE, ADZ, AND MACHETE COMPANY

Collinsville, CT – My wife and I stopped at Collinsville yesterday and I took some photos, what else; I will be displaying those over the next few days. I also decided to stretch out the fall foliage some since this year was not that good due to the rain and wind that knocked most of the leaves.

This is the Collinsville Axe, Adz, and Machete Company (an adz is used to shape wood like hand hewn beams). This building was built around 1905 and the town grew up around it. The building now houses some small companies and an antique mall. The Collins Company arguably makes the best machete in the world. I helped my father do some surveying growing up and all we used were Collins machetes. Posted by Picasa

LEAVES IN THE GARDEN

I took this photo of some leaves that fell in my garden. You can just make out the sage peeking out.

Sorry for the delay, I was having trouble with Picassa/Blogger this morning. Posted by Picasa

CAPTAIN OLIVER FILLEY HOUSE

Bloomfield, CT – This house was built in 1834 by Capt. Oliver Filley. It is unusual example of all-stone Greek Revival architecture. This building is currently undergoing rehabilitation and will be the future home of the Wintonbury Historical Society.

As the Stone Turns
Everything is status quo. I will continue these episodes when I have something to report.

OLD FARM SCHOOL

Bloomfield, CT – The Old Farm School is Bloomfield’s (formerly Wintonbury), oldest public building. The two story schoolhouse was originally built in 1796. In 1979 it was placed on the National Register of Historic Places.

As the Stone Turns
Yesterday was virtually pain free...let hope it stays that way. Today I go see the Hemotologist to see what needs to be done before the blasting,I have Hemophilia so things are not so easy for me.

PUMPKINS ON THE GREEN

Last night I went down to the town green and took a few photos of the pumpkins. Every year they have a pumpkin carving day and then the pumpkins are displayed on the green. You may ask if they get smashed, the answer is no.

As the Stone Turns
Today I am going to go to work and see what happens. Hopefully, the stones will not move and I will have minimal pain.

STREAM IN THE FOREST

Yesterday I was able to take my dogs to the forest to romp them and take a few photos myself. I took this photo of the river,if you look back I have taken photos when the stream was almost dry, flood stage, and now about normal.

As the Stone Turns
Nothing much to report, I am still having pain, mostly in my right side, the on with the new stone.

AUTUMN AT THE MEETING HOUSE

This is a photo of the meeting house across from my house. It is even more beautiful on the inside that outside. It was originally used for church services on Sunday. The pulpit is very high and has a balcony around. I will try to get a shot inside next month. It is now rented out for functions such as small weddings.

"As the Stone Turns"
In yesterday's episode I told you I had a kidney stone. I have been doing such a good job off drinking to flush the stone out that now I have a stone on the right side that is moving(and hurting). The stone on the left is 7mm and will have to be blasted with a lazer, scheduled for Nov 4. Stay tuned for tomorrow's episode of "As the Stone Turns". Posted by Picasa

DOWN THE STREET

I stepped out this morning and captured this photo just down the street from my house. I am still suffering from my kidney stone so I think photos will have to be from close to home (This is like a subplot on my blog, "As the Stone Turns") Posted by Picasa

UNION STATION - NORTHAMPTON MA

Northampton, MA – This is Union Train Station in Northampton MA. Or should I saw was, it is now Spaghetti Freddie’s Restaurant. The building itself is very nice, this might not be the best angle to show it off, but it did look interesting.

Note: For anyone looking for nice autumn photos, sorry, I’m sort of on the bench with a kidney stone. It is 3am and I am drinking water like a fish ‘cause I think the stone may be making a run for the outside, if you know what I mean. So, bear with me for a while and hopefully I can get to taking photos of the foliage instead of having to post some of my “just in case photos”. Posted by Picasa

AUTUMN FLOOD

With all the rain we have had the rivers have risen to flood stage. Fortuatly, this river is not close to houses. It does make for a nice photo though. Posted by Picasa

RAINY AUTUMN

I was going to post somthing else today but when I sat down in front of my computer and looked out the window at the rain I decided to post my view. You can see the branch that fell from the neighbors tree. This is really putting a damper on my colorful autumn photos I should be taking. But, my blog is about what is really happening in New England not just the lovely parts. Posted by Picasa
