Ava Marie Handmade Chocolates and Ice Cream

Peterborough, NH - My wife and I took a side trip to Peterborough from the Keene Pumpkin Festival. We saw Ava Marie Chocolates and Ice Cream and decided to have some Ice Cream.

This is the counter for Ice Cream and also chocolate of course.

Finally, an Ice Cream store that is not afraid to give you a good amount of ice cream, this is a regular size...and I all about the volume. If you visit Peterburough, definately stop by for some ice cream or chocolate. Here is there website for more info. Ava Marie

Disappointed

While in the Burlington, VT area I kept on seeing these signs for Creemees. Expecting to find some local treat,I checked out what a creemee was and was disappointed to find out it was just soft server ice cream; not even some fancy flavors, just vanilla and chocolate. Oh well, at least I know what a creemee is.

Strolling of the Heifers - More Stuff

Elf girl, this is the daughter of a women I was standing next to watching the parade.

The parade is not just for girls, here is a team of oxen pulling a cart.

Here is a nice white matched pair of oxen.

This is the Ben and Jerry's Flipped out Truck to promote their new product the "Flipped Out Sundae".

This is the Flipped Out Sundae; they were passing them out for free after the parade. Of course you know I jumped in that line. The sundae has fudge on the bottom, Ice Cream in the middle and what looked like brownie crumbs on the top(I don't remember all the ingredients, all I know that it was good). You flip it over on a plate and on the bottom of the cup is a perforated hole and a cardboard disk. Yo poke your finger in the hole a push the ice cream out and voila, a Flipped Out Sundae.

Flayvors of Cook Farm - Asparagus Ice Cream

Hadley, MA - Flayvors of Cook Farm is an Ice Cream stand that makes its own ice cream from its own cows. It also sells butter, light lunch items, milk, pasteurized and raw milk, they even sell cows. But why buy the cow when you can just get the milk? This is the Cook Farm website if you want to buy the cow. A note about the cows, this is from my cow knowledge in a past life. The cows at the Cook Farm are Holsteins and Jerseys; Holsteins are good for volume of milk and Jersey's are known for their high butter fat content of their milk. This makes for a great pairing.

One thing that Hadley is known for is Asparagus, it is supposed to be the best asparagus in the country. I saw a video that said that a farmer, I don't remember the name, started to grow asparagus to sell in Boston because it was a delicacy in Paris and Germany and has been grown here ever since. Judging by the sign it is called Hadley Grass. I found this article about how Beth Cook invented Asparagus Ice Cream. But I also found this article on how Asparagus Ice Cream was made in the 18th and 19th century. OK, let's just say that she invented this recipe.

Here is a young lady scooping out my "Heifer" size asparagus ice cream.

And here it is, it also contains almonds and has a strong almond flavor. I read that asparagus ice cream tastes like pistachios so I am not sure where the taste of one leaves off and the other begins. It is actually very good and good for you.

ANNABELLE'S NATURAL ICE CREAM

Portsmouth, NH - This photo is of Annabelle's Natural Ice Cream, a landmark in Portsmouth. I've had a few cone's here over the years, very good ice cream. Many of the stores and restaurants have unique signs and Annabelle's is no exception; high above the shop is a huge ice cream cone. I read an interview in an online article where one of the workers used a Nietzsche quote with a twist that I though was quite funny, "Whatever doesn't kill you makes you fatter...". Um, doesn't fatter kill you? I guess but it takes longer. Oh, since I was on the ice cream cone theme I threw in an ice cream cone trash can from Salem, MA.
