DERBY HOUSE

Salem, MA – The Derby House is the oldest brick house still standing in Salem. Merchant and fleet owner built the house in 1762 as a wedding present to his son Elias Hasket Derby and his wife Elizabeth. Between the years of 1762 and 1782 they raised a family of seven children. In 1796 they sold the house to Capt. Henry Price who built the West Indian Good Store next door. Over the years the Derby House became the home of several prominent sea captains.
