Snowy Woods

Here is a photo of the snowy wood. I walk my dogs along this trail quite often.

APPLE BLOSSOMS

I was hanging around the house today and decided to take a photo of some apple blossoms from the tree in my back yard.

MAPLES

I was driving down the road and noticed these maples all with similar limbs hanging over the road.

MAPLE SUGARING MAZE

I drove by this maze of hoses on the maple trees gathering sap to make maple syrup. I had to back up because I couldn't believe how many hoses were going from tree to tree. I don't think the photo does it justice, it was a labyrinth of white and blue hoses for a few acres. I just wonder how much sap they collect per day?

OLD SCHOOL SAP COLLECTING

In these days of trees being linked together with miles of hoses and hooked up to vacuum machines it is nice to see the old sap buckets on the trees. It may not be as efficient but it looks nice, very New England.

TREES OF THE MOUNTAIN

Naugatuck/Beacon Falls, CT - I climbed up the rocks higher and got a these photos of the trees that grew out of the rocks and are shaped by the wind.

SUGAR FROSTED TREES

The snow on the trees makes them seem like they are sugar frosted.

IS THAT NORTH?

How do you know which way is North in the winter? The side with the ice. Not really; well I guess there is a hint of truth to it. In the woods the icy side is the side the shadow is on, but it could be a shadow of another tree so that doesn't work so well. Another thing, see the moss growing on both sides...I guess that blows that theory also.



The ice is the South on one tree and North on the other.

MORE FEBRUARY ICE STORM

Just a few more photos from the ice storm. Today was a high of 44 degrees and sunny.

BATTERSON PARK

Farmington, CT - I had a few minutes before I had to show up for work so I stopped by Batterson Park to see what was up. The park was closed but I snapped a few photos. A few of a tree near the water and some of geese way out in the middle of the pond where there was some open water.

ROADSIDE OAK

This is another of my. "It just struck me" photos. Why did I take the photo? Because it was there.

PINE BURL

One day while walking my dogs I spotted this burl on a pine tree. What really caught my eye was the size in relation to the tree. The tree was about a foot in diameter. I've seen bigger burls but not on such a narrow tree.

SNOWY DOGWOOD

After yesterday's snowstorm I took this photo out my front door of the dogwod tree in our front yard.

HORSE CHESTNUT?

Stonington, CT - While I was in Stonington I saw this tree which I thought might be a Chestnut. It looked in bad shape, the leaves were starting to wilt and the nuts look like they had seen better days. When I got home and did some research I noticed that the leaves did not match. The closest thing I could find was Horse Chestnut but I think that only grows in Europe. Can someone identify this tree? Anyone...anyone?

SUNNY LEAVES

I took this photo last week while walking in the woods. I just loved how the sun was shining through the leaves. When I look at the photo full size it is almost like having a tunnel of leaves with the sun at the end.

LEAF DEW

This morning I was out walking the dogs and of course I had my camera with me. Well, the trees had a more dew than usual so...today's photo.

BLACK AND WHITE FOREST

This is a photo I took about a month ago of the forest before the leaves were on the trees. Kind of a surreal look don't you think?
