Medomak River Ice

This is what the ice on the Medomak River looks like after the cold spell that we just had.

Note: the sections of salt water that a river runs into is called a "river".  In this case, the Medomak River, the fresh water section is about 3 or 4 miles away.)

The entire river was frozen, and from high and low tides and the wind, this  happens.

Death from Above

Portsmouth, NH - Along the streets of Portsmouth are these ice flows coming down and hanging over the sidewalks, some of these can be quite large. Here are a few that I came across. All I can say is I don't want to be under one of these if it lets loose. I guess it just adds to the excitement of visiting Portsmouth.

This one is hanging directly over a doorway

I hesitantly stepped under the hanging ice to take this photo. I think that pipe you see is about 4 to 5 inches and is not touching the ice. I really do not know what is holding up the ice.

IS THAT NORTH?

How do you know which way is North in the winter? The side with the ice. Not really; well I guess there is a hint of truth to it. In the woods the icy side is the side the shadow is on, but it could be a shadow of another tree so that doesn't work so well. Another thing, see the moss growing on both sides...I guess that blows that theory also.

The ice is the South on one tree and North on the other.
