New London, CT - A while ago I went to the Ancient Burial Ground and took this photo. I am trying to get back into the habit of posting again.

New England Photos Extra - Maui Part 3

This is my last installment of the photos I took while on holiday in Maui.


How would you like this house? What a view, whales out your window and surf lulling you to sleep at night.


Another photo of the Haleakala Crater.(I had this photo for a screensaver for a while.



In the foreground of the photo in the rocks is Charles Lindbergh's grave. This church is on the road to Hana.


One of the waterfalls along the Road to Hana. It was raining that day so the area is misty.


Here is a Taro Farm; Taro root is what Poi is made of. Poi is the "starch" that Hawaiians eat. It is served at luaus and lets just say it is an acquired taste.


I took this photo from the Maui Mixed Plate Restaurant(great place to eat).


We went on a little tour and this woman, our tour guide, showed how to husk coconuts. I did learn something, coconut water, the liquid in a coconut should be clear not milky; if the water is milky it is bad.


Proof that I did go to Maui, this was taken by another tourist.

New England Photos Extra - Maui Part 2

This is in Haleakala Crater, you can take a horseback ride down into the crater. As you can see it is rather dusty; this is the Sliding Sands Trail. The company that runs this particular ride is Pony Express Tours.

The Haleakala Silversword Plant is an endangered plant that grows on the Haleakala Volcano.

Along the Road to Hana, we stopped and I go this photo of the surf crashing on the volcanic rocks. It was raining so the sky was gray that day.


Red Crested Cardinals, this look cool but they are an introduced species to Hawaii.



I kept on seeing these "chickens" everywhere I went. I thought they may have been Feral Chickens, escapees from early farms. I did some research an found out the are Jungle Fowl, they are said to be early decedents of our domestic chickens. These Jungle Fowl may be crossing with feral chickens; they look like chickens to me. This one stood in the middle of the road and would not move for the cars.


On the way up to the Haleakala Crater and passed a handful of bicyclists; I took a quick photo of this guy as he reached to top. I have to hand it to these guys; the road up is at least 30 miles long and the elevation at the top is over 10,000 feet...all uphill.


Speaking of bicycles; at this one place along to road to Hana(which will remain anonymous)is a place that you can peddle this bicycle to run a generator which in turn runs a blender. I thought it would be real cool to have a smoothie that I generated the power for. BUT, the girl behind the counter would not serve us because she wanted her lunch(they don't close for lunch). She told us to come back when she was done. So, no fun, no exercise, no smoothie, no cool story, end of story. That is all I have to say about that.

Spooky Looking Church

Peru, MA - I took a ride with my "Boys" to Peru MA, just to see what it looked like. It was on Halloween and it was a dreary and rainy day. I found that there was not much to photograph, in what I think was the center of town was this church and a fire station. I think this photo is fitting of what kind of day it was and being Halloween.

Old Wilson Clothing Company Sign

This building is somewhere along Rte.7 in Vermont. It looks like it was underneath the siding. The only thing I could find from this company is an old shoehorn with this name on it.

Roadside Hog

Last year I saw a hog in this very same garden, I'm not sure if it is the same one. So when I saw the hog there again I took this photo. I did not have my camera with me last year and within a few days they planted a garden in this very same spot.

Pittsfield, MA - I caught this message in a window in Pittsfield.

Hamburger Crows

I was sitting in the car waiting for my wife to come out of the store and noticed one of these crows pecking at a white piece of paper. I then saw that he was after a hamburger. Then another crow came in and stole the hamburger from him. The original crow then grabbed a piece and flew off (see above). A minute later a seagull came to grab the burger from the second crow...the modern rules of the jungle.

Lee, MA - This farm has seen better days, all that is left is this shed and silo.

RAILS TO THE ROCKS

Naugatuck/Beacon Falls, CT - These are the railroad tracks alongside the Naugatuck River and the "rocks" I climbed to get the photos I posted earlier in the week.

BATTERSON PARK

Farmington, CT - I had a few minutes before I had to show up for work so I stopped by Batterson Park to see what was up. The park was closed but I snapped a few photos. A few of a tree near the water and some of geese way out in the middle of the pond where there was some open water.

This is our cat Preston; he was just hanging out in the sun when I snapped his photo.

FISH FOUNTAIN

Norfolk, CT - The fountain is all boarded up for the winter and this is all that is sticking out. I still think this is something to look at, quite interesting.
