New Religion ?

Montville, Maine - I see this sign every time I drive through Montville, I still don't know what it means.  There is not even a church the next five miles.  Ideas?

Somewhere along the road in Vermont I spied this sign painted on the side of a barn.

Disappointed

While in the Burlington, VT area I kept on seeing these signs for Creemees. Expecting to find some local treat,I checked out what a creemee was and was disappointed to find out it was just soft server ice cream; not even some fancy flavors, just vanilla and chocolate. Oh well, at least I know what a creemee is.

Old Wilson Clothing Company Sign

This building is somewhere along Rte.7 in Vermont. It looks like it was underneath the siding. The only thing I could find from this company is an old shoehorn with this name on it.

Pittsfield, MA - I caught this message in a window in Pittsfield.

St. Pierre's Barber Shop

Williamstown, MA - This sign caught my eye, "Only 3 hours from Fenway Park", outside A barbershop. With a sign like that I would not go in for a haircut with a Yankee's tee shirt or you might get the van Gogh cut.

UPDATE:I stopped by here for a haircut when I was in Williamstown last week and he is in fact a Yankees fan. He just put that on the sign because a Park sounds better than a Stadium and it may not be safe to say "Yankee Stadium" in Red Sox country.

Portsmouth, NH - Portsmouth has a large number of great signs. This is the Newsshop Sign.


This is what really made the sign, the hand carved in the end of the mast.

Frosty Mug

Portsmouth, NH - This mug sign is outside the Portsmouth Brewery, covered in ice it is quite the frosty mug.

West Springfield, MA - Someone put this sign in the back of their car with a nice sentiment.

SUFFIELD BIODIESEL

Suffield, CT - While driving through Suffield I noticed all these signs along the main street. I was wondering what these people had against biodiesel. I did some research and I think I found out, someone wants to build a biodiesel plant in town.

BE A LITTER LUGGER

Along the highway in Massachusetts - I guess you are either a litter bug or a litter lugger. That is some expensive trash!

PIEROGI SIGN

Seymour, CT - This sign in front of a church lets you know what nationality a good part of the residence in Seymour are. The Naugatuck Valley has a large immigrant population from Poland, who came here to work in the factories.

RIVERTON CT POST OFFICE - HITCHCOCKS-VILLE SIGN

Riverton, CT - This is Riverton's Post office.


If you look close, on the left of the post office is this sign explaining about the name of the town.

NORFOLK CT - HAND PAINTED SIGN

Norfolk, CT - I absolutely love this sign! It is located on the corner of the Norfolk Green. I've wanted to photograph this sign for a number of years but the last few times I was through Norfolk the sign was not there; someone knocked it over with their car and it had to be fixed and repainted (that is my understanding). I am glad that it is back in it's usual location. Great Barrington and Pittsfield are in Massachusetts and the other towns are in Connecticut.

ANNABELLE'S NATURAL ICE CREAM

Portsmouth, NH - This photo is of Annabelle's Natural Ice Cream, a landmark in Portsmouth. I've had a few cone's here over the years, very good ice cream. Many of the stores and restaurants have unique signs and Annabelle's is no exception; high above the shop is a huge ice cream cone. I read an interview in an online article where one of the workers used a Nietzsche quote with a twist that I though was quite funny, "Whatever doesn't kill you makes you fatter...". Um, doesn't fatter kill you? I guess but it takes longer. Oh, since I was on the ice cream cone theme I threw in an ice cream cone trash can from Salem, MA.
