MUSK OX FARM

Palmer, AK - If I remember correctly, this is only one of two Musk Ox Farms in the world. They raise Musk Ox for their "wool" called qiviut which is combed from the animal once a year. Once all the qiviut is harvested it is sent out to get spun into yarn, I swear the guide said to Rhode Island. The yarn is then given to Oomingmak, an Alaskan native knitter's co-operative. The women that belong to Oomingmak knit it into scarves, hats, tunics, stoles, etc.and sold.
