HOLLAND MA - WAR MEMORIAL

Holland, MA - I saw this memorial in front of the school in Holland MA. What struck me was the number of names; Holland looks to be a very small town. This must have been almost all the boys in town. If you notice there are a few with muliple last names, which must have been from the same family or at least cousins.

Am not a historian by any stretch, but from I've read (very little) about the history of the town it was sort of a Town that had a rest inn at the 4-way intersection and travelers used to stay at an inn.

Aside from the local mining of graphite but called lead mine, up the road in the Town of Sturbridge it was mostly had a few rural towns.

It used to be part of a bigger town, that called Brimfield, but branched off along with the Town of Wales from its mothership town.

As far as I know its been a town of cottages around the two lakes where people used as summer homes and then went back to business at summer's end.

Now its become more of a permanent homestead of homes where people reconstructed the cottages to homes around the lake.

As far as the boys who died in the war, I don't know much about that.
