FIREHOUSE HOUSE

Stockbridge MA - When I was in Stockbridge I noticed this house that appears to be a house that was originally a firehouse. If I remember correctly, it says the "Old Firehouse" on the side. I know there is another old brick firehouse in town. None the less it is cool house.

I'm sure it must be a bit of a novelty to live in a house like this.

This was an active firehouse for many years. It was also the center of a Norman Rockwell portrait called "The New American LaFrance is Here!" This painting shows an old time triple combination fire engine pumper from the 1920s / 30s being replaced with a "newer" model American LaFrance pumper from the 1950s / 1960s.

Not many of these old wood framed firehouses are in existence any more.
