RHODE ISLAND COLONY / STATE HOUSE

Newport, RI - This building was the Colony House from 1739 - 1776 and the State House from 1776 - 1900. There is a plaque on the front that says."Here the Assembly met and Governors were inagurated".

Side view.

Trivia Alert - Pineapples are a sign of welcome in Colonial times. I suppose this means that all are welcome in this building.

I think there may be some masonic symbolism in that doorway, in those times around when the constitution was signed all the leaders of the day were freemasons and used a lot of that in architecture of the day.
The all seeing eye on the back of the dollar bill is very masonic.
George Washinton was a freemason and his regalia (apron) is on disply somewhere.
Do you have a pic of the corner stone plaque, Lots of corner stones would have been laid with the masonic corner stone ceremony using wine, corn and oil.
There are a lot of paintings of George wearing his freemason apron. He even has an apron given to him by Lafayette.
I do not have a photo of the corner stone, to tell the truth I don't remember seeing one.
I will have to keep an eye (all seeing eye?) out for one with a masonic symbol on it.
