NATHAN HALE’S UNION SCHOOL

New London, CT – This schoolhouse is where Nathan Hale (Connecticut’s Official State Hero) taught school from 1774-1775 until he joined Washington’s Army. When he was 21 he went under-cover and was caught spying on the British. He was executed in New York in 1776. He dying words were the inspirational, “I regret I have but one life to lose for my country”.

The building has been moved many times, it is now next to the Sailors and Soldiers Monument.
