TARIFFVILLE POST OFFICE

I pass this post office almost everyday on the way to work. The the thing that catches my attention, other than the gold lettering, is the one postal truck(in back of the building). I guess they are big time compared to Granville since we don't have any trucks, just rural route carriers in their own vehicles. Posted by Picasa

That is definitely big time! We've got carriers in their own vehicles too! Well, at least they're not riding on cows.
Happy Valentine's Day to you Bill!
Peace............

How many people live in your town, and at what time do you get your mail if there is no mail truck? Why doesn't the US Government supply your post office with mail trucks?? Just asking. My town has about 5 mail trucks.

bhakti - We have about 1500 people who live in Granville. But our Post Office also covers Tolland MA which has 900 people.

I get my mail about 11:30 - 1:30 depending how long it takes to sort I guess.

Since we are out in the sticks and the houses are far apart, we have Rural Route carriers. These carriers are actually contractors who deliver mail in their own vehicles.

Sound more like a way for the gov't to save money, they don't have to buy trucks or pay benefits.

I grew up in Simsbury in the 1970s, and "word" was that this was the only post office in the country that has a sign with the name of the town first. I don't know if it's really true; but over the decades I have paid attention, and all other post offices say "U S Post Office" followed by the name of the town. Kind of odd. Anyone ever hear of this?
