CLOCK AND BELL TOWER IN WATERBURY

Waterbury, CT – Everyone who lives in or has passed through Waterbury will recognize this landmark which has been there since 1909. It is the tower on the Union Train Station which is modeled after the Torre del Mangia in Siena, Italy. The tower stands 245 feet tall and the clock in the tower is the 2nd largest in New England (I was corrected, the Lawrence clock is larger by 4 feet - thanks Lucas). My father told me that once during WWII a large number of American planes were passing over Waterbury and one of the bombers actually circled the tower; it must have been quite the sight to see.
