Every autumn we decorate our door with gourds and a bittersweet wreath. This is the 2006 decorating.

San Francisco, CA - My wife and I went to San Francisco for a few days to celebrate our 25th anniversary. Here I am in a cell in Alcatraz doing the tourist thing.

THE TORTOISE...

OK, it's a turtle and a cottontail rabbit but you get the main idea. These creatures were at the Kellogg Environmental Center in Derby, CT. The rabbit was outside and the turtle was inside in a tank. 

CANON SAVING NEW HAVEN

 
New Haven, CT – This statue is to commemorate the day, July 5, 1779, citizens of New Haven saved the city by stopping the British forces from crossing the West River by using cannon fire. 

 
I like this shot, especially the guy in the back squinting to aim the gun. 

 
Here come the British...don't let them cross the river. 

FIRST MEETING HOUSE IN HOPKINTON

 
Hopkinton, MA – This stone and plaque commemorates the first meeting house built in Hopkinton Massachusetts which was built in 1724. The plaque was put there by the First Congregational Church in 1911. I though it looked quite interesting.

NICHE SERVICE

 
This person / company have really found a unique service, steam cleaning grocery carts; who thinks of these things. I’ve seen this truck before early in the morning washing all the carts before the people start coming to the store to shop. 

GOLDEN PUPPIES !

 
My wife and I went down and took some photos for a friend that was looking to purchase a golden puppy. These puppies are just down the street from where I live and they are so cute; I just couldn't resist posting them.

By the way if anyone was looking for a Golden Puppy in the Granville, MA - Granby, CT area; I could hook you up with this person that is selling these puppies.

Lake McDonough - New Hartford, CT - It's the end of the boating season and all the boats are strung in a line, moored out in the middle of the lake.

ALLIES IN WAR, PARTNERS IN PEACE

 
Smithsonian Institution’s National Museum of the American Indian – This statue symbolizes the bond between the Colonists and the Oneida Indians. The statue was sculpted by Edward Hlavka from Utah; the three figures are Oneida Chief Oskanondohna and an Oneida woman, Polly Cooper, along with Gen.George Washington. The statue has a lot of symbolism; for a detailed explanation go to Oneida News it is very interesting and informative.

THE MARCHING DOUGHBOY

 
Hopkinton, MA – This statue was erected to honor the Hopkinton residents who fought in WW I; the sculptor was Theo Alice Ruggles Kitson. 

 
The Marching Doughboy Theo Alice Ruggles Kitson sculpted the statue that honors the 115 Hopkinton residents who fought in World War I. Ruggles Kitson was born in Brookline in 1871 and died in 1932. Her best known sculpture is “The Hiker”, a monument commemorating the soldiers who fought in the wars of the United States' at the turn of the century.

I though this was the most interesting part of the sculpture. A German helmet with what looks like bulges made by bullets but they go out both sides, not in one side and out the other like you would think. Also, there is a real bird nest under the helmet. 

FALL FARMSTAND

 
Simsbury, CT - Rosedale Farm - I took a trip out to Simsbury at lunch yesterday and took some photos at Rosedale Farm (the grapes are getting ready for harvest). Here is a photo of some gourds,pumpkins, and melons (They do such a good job of displaying things here.

LAST CONVERSATION PIECE

 
Washington, D.C. - These sculptures were outside the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden. I believe they are called "Last Conversation Piece" by Juan Munoz. They are odd enough for me to photograph; everyone has photos of the Capitol.

DISCO TURTLE

 
Silver Springs, MD - I was just down in Washington, DC this weekend and made a stop in Silver Springs, MD. When I saw this turtle I just had to take a photo. The turtle statues were in honor of the 150th Anniversary of the University of Maryland their mascot is the "Terrapin”.
